Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR)
The Queer Liberation Front, with the support of Indivisible Charlottesville, is organizing a candlelight vigil and protest march to mark the annual Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR) on November 20. At 6pm on the 20th, queer folks and allies are invited to gather on the Downtown Mall in front of The Beautiful Idea (411 E. Main St.), where we will light candles and read the names of our trans siblings who have been killed over the last year. We will have a moment of silence for Sage Smith, a Charlottesville native and trans woman who went missing on 11/20 in 2012. Immediately following the vigil, around 6:30pm, we will march to protest the recent waves of anti-trans policies that have been enacted here in Charlottesville and throughout the country. The march will step off from Heather Heyer Way and proceed all the way up Main Street, ending at the UVA Health Battle Building, where speakers will address the marchers. Color theme options: Red in solidarity with QLF's theme “our blood is on your hands,” or pink & blue for trans pride.
After the conclusion of the march, we invite trans folks and their chosen loved ones to join us for a private gathering at the Rivanna Area Queer Center (801 W. Main St.).

To prepare for the TDOR march, the QLF is hosting a workshop on protest health and safety on November 7 in partnership with the Charlottesville Regional Medic Collective (CHARM), and a protest sign-making party on November 14, both at RAQC (801 W. Main St.). Indivisible Charlottesville is co-hosting a series of workshops through the People's Activist Series to ready participants for acts of non-cooperation, growing our movements, and fighting authoritarianism.
