Indivisible Charlottesville Board and Executive Committee Endorse Tom Perriello for 5th District House Seat
The Board and Executive Committee of Indivisible Charlottesville are proud to formally endorse Tom Perriello for Congress.
Indivisible Charlottesville is a 501(c)(4), all-volunteer social welfare organization rooted in hope, action, and collective power. We organize, educate, and mobilize community members to hold elected officials accountable, defend and expand participation in democracy, protect civil rights, and advance policies that work for everyone.
Tom Perriello showed us in his previous term in Congress and since then in his work around the world that he is courageous in pursuing what is best for the people of the 5th district and the nation. His career reflects a consistent commitment to accountability, progressive public policy, civil rights, democracy, and the belief that government should serve the public good.
As a member of Congress, Tom demonstrated courage by voting for the Affordable Care Act, expanding healthcare access to millions despite intense political pressure and personal risk. Throughout his time in Congress, he held numerous in-person town halls throughout the district, even in places where voters disagreed with him, and stayed until everyone had spoken. That vote and his willingness to remain accessible to his constituents exemplifies what we demand from elected officials: committed, principled leadership that places people over politics.
Beyond his time in Congress, Tom has continued to defend human rights through public service and diplomacy. As a U.S. Special Envoy he worked on conflict prevention and protecting vulnerable communities; through his leadership of the U.S. Programs at the Open Society Foundations, and service on the national Indivisible board, he has proven himself to be a staunch defender of democracy.
We are committed not only to preserving our democracy, but to building a democratic system that is more equitable for everyone. Indivisible Charlottesville believes in holding power to account. We do not put our faith in individual politicians; we put our energy into organizing. That means holding elected officials accountable, including those we support, and supporting and collaborating with the people and communities most impacted by injustice.
We are encouraged by Tom’s current focus on protecting voting rights, strengthening democratic institutions, expanding access to healthcare, lowering costs for working families, and investing in rural and underserved communities. These priorities align closely with IC’s ongoing work to expand civic participation, defend fundamental rights, and build durable, people-powered movements.
We believe that Tom Perriello shares these values and will represent the people of Virginia with integrity and courage in Congress. For these reasons, the Board and Executive Committee of Indivisible Charlottesville are proud to endorse his candidacy.
