Join Indivisible Charlottesville , One Virginia 2021, and Mission First for this important event.
Saturday, February 2nd at 1PMMcIntire Room, Central Library201 E Market St., Charlottesville
Virginia is one of only two states with an election every year. That means that this year, and every year, we must stay vigilant against efforts to suppress voting rights. From widespread gerrymandering to laws that make it more challenging for active military to cast their votes, the very basis of our democracy—the franchise—is being attacked. Get educated. Get inspired. And learn how you can make an impact this year!
Join our amazing panel for a discussion on how we take back the ballot:
-Shelly Simonds, the Democrat whose deadlocked 2017 state legislative race was decided by a random drawing, on her experience.
-Brian Ross Cannon from OneVirginia 2021 on redistricting reform and why 2019 could be a critical year.
-Asher Smith, Executive Director of Mission First on voting and the military/veterans.
-Angela Lynn, former Democratic candidate for the House of Delegates’ 25th District on rural voting.
-Barbara Lee, plaintiff in the lawsuit attempting to remove Virginia’s strict voter ID laws, on her long history fighting for the franchise.

Ever considered running for local office? We’ve put together a list of open seats for the 2019 elections. We need progressive people running at every level- from state legislature to local school board. If you care about your community and are willing to work hard, you’d be a great candidate! Got a friend who lives in one of these areas and would be great for one of these offices? Share this list with them and encourage them to run!
