Join us for a training session as we prepare to hold Robert Tracci accountable for his record as Albemarle County Commonwealth’s Attorney. There are three upcoming debates between progressive candidate Jim Hingeley and right-wing incumbent Robert Tracci:
Thursday, October 3, 7:00PM - Cove Garden Ruritan Debate
Wednesday, October 9, 1:30. Senior Statesman Debate
Wednesday, October 17 7:00pm - League of Women Voters Debate
Learn how to support Jim by asking really tough and impactful questions of Tracci!
Here are some lowlights from the most recent candidate forum:
--Tracci bragged about 'extracting students from schools and transferring them to the prison system';
--Tracci explained his support of voluntary ICE notifications with Trumpian fear mongering about our immigrant friends, families, and neighbors: "the statistics are very clear on the types of offenses for which [ICE] issues detainers: abductions, strangulations, and indecent liberties with minors";
--Tracci claimed he is 'non-partisan', accusing Jim & the Progressive Prosecutor movement to end mass incarceration of "violence against victims and the very notion of justice."
Why is this race so important? Commonwealth’s Attorneys (called district attorneys in other states) are some of the most powerful elected officials in the American system. They have wide discretion in choosing whether to encourage discriminatory policing, use money bail even for minor crimes, “pile on” charges to intimidate people into pleading guilty, force longer prison sentences, and more. Robert Tracci won his last race for Commonwealth’s Attorney by only about 500 votes. Jim Hingeley is an experienced prosecutor who will fight injustice and mass incarceration in our system.
