The media ecosystem, which includes conventional, alternative, and social media, is no longer an observer in geopolitics, but an active participant in what has become a full-contact sport. Everyone is both a target and a participant. Despite increasing awareness of media-driven manipulation, we are as vulnerable as ever to being victimized by a system that does not have our interests at heart. This workshop will discuss how information and media is weaponized and will put a special focus on how each of us becomes an active participant in that weaponization, whether we realize it or not. It will cover mis-/dis-information campaigns as well as ways that AI is helping to scale political manipulation. Finally, we'll discuss how antifascists can invert this process to protect ourselves and our communities and begin to fight back.
