This workshop explores the strategies, philosophy, and impact of nonviolent direct action during the American Civil Rights Movement and into the present day. Participants will have the opportunity to hear from local community members with direct experience in how activists have used methods such as boycotts, sit-ins, marches, and civil disobedience to challenge sytemic racial injustice. The session highlights how disciplined action mobilized communities, influenced public opinion, and helped bring about significant social and legal change, and what lessons we can apply to our resistance work today.
